“I joined Eric for the 2009 tour of Southeastern Arizona and had a rewarding and delightful trip. Eric is an exceptionally skilled tour leader who is knowledgeable, not just as a birder—at which he is exceptional, but as a naturalist who understands and communicates the lay of the larger natural world in which the birds take their place. Our destinations were well-informed, thoughtfully chosen and very productive. Eric also showed his skills in guiding many different personalities through the day and through the trip, leaving much determination to the group and gently providing focus and insight as necessary. The field lunches were sufficient and delicious and the dinner destinations well chosen. I look forward to joining Eric on further trips and would trust his skills, judgment and leadership just about anywhere.” – Bradley B.“I recently went on one of Eric’s Nature Tours to Crater Lake, Oregon. Eric did an excellent job as tour guide. His preparation and planning was amazingly detailed. He accomodated all the travelers, including my elderly mother who is partially disabled. He went out of his way to make it a great trip for all. I highly recommend Eric Horvath Nature Tours.”
“My wife and I just returned from the Klamath Birding Weekend and have only good things to report. Accommodations were great at Thompson’s Bed & Breakfast. We saw tons of birds, including the amazing courting display of the Western grebe. Watch it on YouTube if you haven’t seen it before. Eric is a very knowledgeable birding guide and certainly would appeal to experienced birders. I was glad that he was still able to be patient with those less experienced, like me for instance. I especially enjoyed seeing the Williamson River Delta restoration project by The Nature Conservancy. What a triumph! All in all, it was a great time, exactly as advertised.” – David
“I took my sons ages 9 and 14 on a tour of the Klamath Basin with Eric. Eric is a great naturalist, with encyclopedic knowledge of flora, fauna, history and geology. He is passionate about his job. He keeps all clients happy and has a special touch with children. He is also great at picking accomodations and restaurants!
We saw the Williamson River delta (Upper Klamath Lake), Lower Klamath Refuge, Tule Lake, Lava Beds… We saw coyotes, marmots and of course an infinite variety of birds: barn owls, horned owls, bald eagles, hawks, falcons, flocks of thousands of ducks, geese and swans…
We saw two bald eagles trying to get two ducks that were diving to save their lives. We also saw a bald eagle killing a duck, bringing it back to the top of a telegraph pole, pluming it and eating from the carcass.
We were stunned by the beautiful scenery of frozen marshes surrounded by snow-capped peaks and a crystal-clear view of MT Shasta.
Thanks, Eric, for a very memorable nature weekend.” – Ben, Alex and Maxi
“This past year I went on a trip with Eric to Panama and had a terrific time at the Canopy Tower Lodge watching Green Honey Creepers and Howler Monkeys in the trees outside the windows of the Dining Room. We saw incredible diversity of wildlife including two and three toed sloths, several species of Mot Mots, Bat Falcons mating in mid air, and Basilisk Lizards running across a pond.
As a non-birder, catching the subtleties of different birds can be difficult, but Eric has a way of quickly bringing the appearance, behavior, and flight patterns of birds to life, making identification easier and a lot more fun. He not only can identify animals accurately at a distance, but can give the interesting facts about the creatures that makes you feel like they are your old friends, really making the trip more memorable.
The other nice thing about the trip to Panama with Eric was that I could have left my wallet at home. Eric set up the trip with a complete price excluding airfare, so everyone on the trip knew what they were spending before they even left home. He worked with a travel agent to help with our flights, making that part of the planning a breeze.” – Pat
